Northeastern University postpones plans for residence hall

Boston school cites economic downturn in deciding to put off 600-student facility

Northeastern University in Boston has shelved plans for a 600-student residence hall amid a severe crunch in credit markets. The project had been slated to begin next summer and had been scheduled to open in 2011 as part of Northeastern's push to house more of its students on campus. Despite the credit pinch, Northeastern will be able to complete construction of a high-rise residence hall in the Roxbury neighborhood by next summer as planned.
