Northland College in Ashland, Wis., doubles student fees for renewable energy

Students vote to pay $40 a semester to support environmental initiatives

News from Northland College: The student body at Northland College in Ashland, Wis., has voted to double the fees they pay into the Renewable Energy Fund each semester. The votes increases each Northland student's per-semester contribution from $20 to $40. The funds are collected by the Northland College Student Association (NCSA) for sustainability projects. This year the funds were allocated to a student group working to replace Northland’s vending machines with more efficient machines stocked with beverages from businesses that are local or have shown a dedication to environmental and social responsibility.
