Novato, Calif., school goes solar

Novato Charter School in Novato, Calif., has installed photovoltaic collectors on its roof to provide power for most of the electricity use on campus. "Peel-and-stick" solar panels, about the thickness of cardboard, have been applied to the school building's existing metal structure. They will offset 78 percent of the school's annual electrical use and will pay for themselves within 11 years.
