New York City Schools Chancellor Joel Klein is telling state lawmakers that he may have to slash as many as 15,000 jobs--mostly teachers--in the next year because of budget cuts. Klein says a proposed $700 million cut in state aid plus a $500 million cut in city funding leave few options but to cut jobs, increase class sizes and reduce programs.
