New York City wants to spend less on private school for special education students

New York City has decided to challenge more cases in which it pays for private school tuition of children with disabilities whose needs, parents say, are not being met by the public schools. Acting on advice from consultants, the city has more than doubled the size of its special education legal team by adding five lawyers and a dozen paralegals. The effort is expected to save the city $25 million a year in private school tuition.
