Ohio Supreme Court rules that charter school officials can be held liable for misspent funds

Dec. 21, 2010
State has been trying to retrieve funds from a now-closed Cleveland charter

From The Cleveland Plain Dealer: The Ohio Supreme Court has ruled that officers of charter schools are public officials who can be held liable for lost or misspent public money. The Ohio Department of Education has been trying for about four years to recover $1.4 million in state funds from the people responsible for The International Preparatory School, which was a charter school in Cleveland. The state auditor determined in January 2007 that the school had been overpaid that amount because of inflated enrollment figures in the 2004-05 and 2005-06 school years.
