Oklahoma City school leaders vow to fight any state takeover attempts

From The Daily Oklahoman: The superintendent of the Oklahoma City School District and the city's school board president say they will fight any attempt by the state to take over struggling schools. As part of a waiver of the No Child Left Behind Act that has been granted to Oklahoma, the state Education Department has the authority to hire private companies to run failing public schools that are unable to demonstrate the ability to improve. A spokesman for the education department says no decision has been made about which schools, if any, will be takeover targets.
