Orange County, Fla., district seek to end court oversight of school desegregation

Officials with Orange County (Fla.) Public Schools are nearing a deal to end 45 years of federal court supervision over the district's efforts to overcome its segregated past. The district is negotiating with the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People to settle the lawsuit, first filed in the 1960s, that forced the district to admit blacks and whites to the same schools.
