Audit says student loan company should repay $34 million to federal government

The Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency improperly exploited a subsidy program to collect $34 million from the government, according to a report by the inspector general of the U.S. Education Department. The audit urges the education department to recover the payments it made to the Pennsylvania agency, a state-owned company that makes and guarantees student loans.
