School food service worker suspended in Philadelphia for discarding oranges; she says they were spoiled

Philadelphia schools food service worker Loretta Allen says she was horrified when she saw the crate of oranges, some of them brown, some white and others covered with green spots. The Cramp Elementary School worker threw the whole crate away--and three more crates just like it--more than 500 oranges in all, and she is in big trouble for that. She has been suspended for three days, put on probation for a year, and transferred to another school, the result of a due process hearing that was completed earlier this month. District officials disputed Allen's account and say it is nothing more than a case of an employee who didn't want to do her job.
