Florida district tells teachers not to use social media to communicate with students

From The St. Petersburg Times: The Pinellas County (Fla.) School District has prohibited teachers from using social media tools to communicate with students. The new policy requires teachers to use district-provided e-mails and electronic platforms to correspond with students. Board members started looking into a policy change after teachers from other Florida counties were forced to resign or faced other sanctions for inappropriate discussions or comments on Facebook and MySpace. Pinellas officials enlisted the help of teacher union representatives in drafting the policy.
