From The St. Petersburg Times: Fired Pinellas County (Fla.) superintendent Julie Janssen believes the school district should pay her $621,536 in salary and benefits to settle her contract. The School Board disagrees. Board members concede that Janssen is due her annual salary, $203,000, and they aren't challenging her right to $199,998 in accrued vacation and unused sick days. But a majority of the seven-member board says it's not going to budge on at least $138,000 of the $218,538 in benefits she says she is due. Janssen's attorney says that amount represents how much the former schools chief would have earned during one more year of employment had the district continued to pay into her state retirement fund.
AUGUST 2011...from The St. Petersburg Times: The Pinellas County (Fla.) School Board has fired superintendent Julie Janssen. The vote came after Janssen withdrew an offer to resign. Her attorney suggested the school board terminate her in accordance to her contract. Janssen was fired without cause, which means the board is obligated to pay her a year's salary--$203,100 plus benefits. The payout would be reduced if she became employed elsewhere over the course of the year. Janssen's final day as superintendent will be Sept. 2.

Janssen's attorney made the settlement offer Thursday afternoon. Janssen, district school chief since 2008, receives an annual salary of $200,000.
