Legislative stalemate results after disagreement about location

Plans to build a University of Washington branch campus in Everett or elsewhere in Snohomish County appear all but dead for this legislative session. Bickering among lawmakers over where a campus should be situated has contributed to a stalemate in the Legislature.

FROM OCTOBER 2007: The campaign in Washington State is heating up in Everett, Marysville and Lake Stevens. People are making up slogans and printing T-shirts and banners to promote their communities as the best choice for the next University of Washington campus. State officials say their decision will be based on how each of the finalist fulfills selection criteria -- such as proximity to housing and jobs related to the academic programs; site conditions; access to public transportation and utilities.
