Sinkhole forced relocation of students from Trapnell Elementary

FromThe St. Petersburg Times: For the first time since a sinkhole forced their evacuation in January, students enrolled in Trapnell Elementary School in Plant City, Fla., returned to their home school Monday. The displaced younger students had been crammed into Bailey Elementary, while older kids occupied classrooms at Strawberry Crest High.

February 2010...Hillsborough County (Fla.) district news release: The Hillsborough County (Fla.) District has begun work on eliminating a potential sinkhole that has forced the closure of Trapnell Elementary School in Plant City. Workers will pump grout into the “subsurface void” in an effort to prevent it from becoming a sinkhole. Since Jan. 20, all Trapnell students in grades 3, 4, and 5 have been attending Strawberry Crest High School. All other Trapnell students have been attending class at Bailey Elementary School. The job is expected to last three to four weeks, after which time the students and staff should be cleared to return to Trapnell.
