School district committee says Leadership and Entrepreneurship Public Charter High School can remain open

The Portland (Ore.) Public Schools' charter school committee has approved an appeal from the Leadership and Entrepreneurship Public Charter High School to remain open. The school has been teetering on the brink of closure. The renewal recommendation is contingent on several conditions, but board members say the the school seems to have made an "amazing turnaround" and has strengthened its budget. In March, the board decided not to renew the school's charter, citing a number of financial problems. Since then, the school community has worked to raise money and improve its financial reporting processes.
