Portland schools end enrollment decline

Leaders of the Portland (Ore.) school district have waited for a sign that they're starting to recover from a decade of enrollment losses. They just got it: The district posted its highest student numbers in 12 years, bolstered by growth in kindergarten classes. The preliminary count ended up at 46,241 students from pre-kindergarten through 12th grade. Kindergarten rolls jumped nearly 150 students over last year.
