Commission seeks more accessible materials for college students

News release: A government commission is recommending that guidelines be established for accessible instructional materials used in post-secondary institutions. The Advisory Commission on Accessible Instructional Materials (AIM) in Postsecondary Education for Students with Disabilities also recommends that Congress should create incentives to accelerate innovation in accessibility by publishers and producers of course materials, hardware and software. All told, the commission, established by the Higher Education Opportunities Act of 2008 issued 18 recommendations to the ability of postsecondary students with disabilities to obtain accessible instructional materials in a timely and cost-effective manner.
