Panel recommends 43 steps that could save nearly $60 million over 3 years

From The Chicago Sun-Times: The University of Illinois could save nearly $60 million over three years through a series of belt-tightening moves, a university panel says. The panel formed in November by interim President Stanley O. Ikenberry is proposing 43 cost-cutting steps. The group did not indicate whether or how many people might lose their jobs under the recommendations. Most of the suggested savings would come from changing how the university buys supplies and streamlining its information technology spending.
