Chicago charter will be modeled on Henry Ford Academy

A Michigan export will be coming to Chicago -- a chartered public school patterned after the groundbreaking Henry Ford Academy in Dearborn, now in its 10th year. When it opens in August, Chicago's Power House High School will be the first in a planned national network of Henry Ford Academy-inspired high schools funded by an $8.5 million grant from the Ford Motor Co. Fund and a $3 million grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Power House High will serve 480 students with a curriculum centered on sustainability and alternative energy, appropriate for a building that first powered the headquarters of Sears, Roebuck & Co.
