From The Washington Post: The Prince George's County (Md.) school board has approved a gloomy budget that slashes more than 1,300 jobs and increases class sizes. Superintendent William R. Hite Jr. held out hope that the fiscal plan might persuade the state and county governments to contribute more money.
Earlier...from The Washington Post: The Prince George's County (Md.) school system, facing a $155 milllion gap in its $1.6 billion budget, is considering severe cuts: The superintendent has proposed eliminating 259 jobs by increasing class sizes, which would save $20 million, and eliminating 233 positions for the pre-kindergarten program, which would be reduced to a half-day program, saving $10 million. He also has proposed closing the William S. Schmidt Outdoor Education Center, known as Camp Schmidt, where fifth-graders have learned about the outdoors for four decades.
