Principal removed at D.C. middle school

Hart Middle has been plagued by violence

The Washington, D.C., school system has fired principal of Hart Middle School after two months of disorder and violence that included assaults on at least three teachers. Kisha Webster was informed of her dismissal at a meeting with Lisa Ruda, Chancellor Michelle A. Rhee's chief of staff. Webster has been replaced by a central office administrator, Billy Kearney, who has been serving as the school system's director of principal recruitment.

EARLIER: Washington, D.C., school chancellor Michelle Rhee has dispatched a team of administrators and extra security to Hart Middle School, where three teachers have been assaulted, a 14-year-old was charged with carrying a shotgun and students have run the hallways discharging fire extinguishers. Interviews with teachers, parents, students and police paint a picture of a troubled school that is overenrolled and understaffed and lacks the extra academic support promised by Rhee.
