High school construction plan draws opposition in Hillsborough County, Fla.

From The Tampa Tribune: A plan to build a high school on 62 wooded acres in the Lutz area of Hillsborough County, Fla., is expected to head to court if a compromise cannot be reached. In June, a county official approved a special land-use request by Learning Gate Educational Fund, operator of the nearby Learning Gate Community School. Opponents have appealed the decision. Neighbors say a high school for 1,000 students would adversely affect traffic on rural roads. Opponents also say the school's water needs would lower levels of area lakes and create sinkholes, and storm water runoff would pollute the site's 22 acres of wetlands.
