Six years after two school shootings in the San Diego area shocked the nation, the Grossmont (Calif.) Union High School District is struggling to keep law enforcement officers at its schools. The district has cut funding for school resource officer positions this year at Valhalla and Steele Canyon high schools in Rancho San Diego. It marks the first time since the March 2001 shootings at Santana High in Santee and Granite Hills High in El Cajon that the district does not have officers at all schools.
