A subcommittee of the Rhode Island Board of Regents for Elementary and Secondary Education has recommended that the increase in class size instituted in September for certain special education students be allowed to continue. In a cost-saving move, the state had increased from 10 to 12 the class sizes for students with mild to moderate disabilities. Some parents and the Providence Teachers Union have challenged the change. The full Board of Regents will consider the subcommittee’s recommendation next week.
