Prosecutor wants charges dropped in fraternity hazing case

The Mercer County, N.J., prosecutor has asked a judge to drop charges of aggravated hazing against two Rider University officials in a case involving the drinking death of a fraternity pledge. Anthony Campbell, the dean of students, and Ada Badgley, the campus director of Greek life, were indicted by a grand jury earlier this month in connection with the death of the pledge, Gary DeVercelly, 18, of Long Beach, Calif. Three Rider students were also charged. The pledge, a freshman, had a blood-alcohol level of 0.426 percent, or more than five times the legal limit for driving, when he was pronounced dead March 30.
