Rampage at Sacramento State may have begun before victim arrived

From The Sacramento Bee: A detailed timeline of the deadly violence inside a campus residence hall at California State University Sacramento suggests Quran Jones started his rampage before his victim got home. Records from an electronic lock on the door to the suite indicate that roommate Scott Hawkins entered the room six minutes after reports of a disturbance in the room. Jones is accused of beating Hawkins to death.

EARLIER from The Sacramento Bee: Police say they still don't know what sparked the brutal outburst that led to the death of a California State University-Sacramento student inside an American River Courtyard residence hall suite. One student allegedly beat another with a baseball bat. The assailant subsequently charged at campus police, and officers wounded him.

Also...from The Sacramento Bee: A student at California State University-Sacramento has died after being found severely beaten in his residence hall. A suspect in the beating subsequently was shot by police responding to the incident and is hospitalized in stable condition. Authorities have identified the victim as Scott Gregory Hawkins, 23, of Santa Clara. The alleged assailant, one of Hawkins' roommates in the the American River Courtyard residence hall, is Quran Jones, 19.

SIDEBAR: The student killed at Sac State was an avid history buff, a quiet religious man who had come to the school in August in hopes of becoming a history teacher or professor. Scott Gregory Hawkins also had Asperger syndrome, a form of autism that sometimes made him a target for bullies.
