Six schools to close in San Antonio

The San Antonio (Texas) Independent School District will close six schools at the end of the year in an effort to save money and pool resources at remaining campuses. Shuttering the campuses will affect the 2,200 students who attend Bowie and Travis elementary schools; Carroll, Pfeiffer and Mann academies; and Cooper Middle School.

EARLIER: San Antonio Independent School District Superintendent Robert Durón, faced with steadily declining enrollment, is recommending that the district close half a dozen schools at the end of the year to save money and improve academic offerings for all students. About 2,200 students would be affected by the closures, which officials estimate would save $6 million a year.
