Salem-Keizer (Ore.) district plans to close five elementary schools

3 would close this year, 2 more the following year

From The Salem Statesman Journal: The Salem-Keizer (Ore.) School District intends to close Fruitland, Bethel and Lake Labish elementaries this fall and send those students to other schools in the district, a district spokesperson says. Rosedale and Hazel Green elementaries would remain open for the 2011-12 school year but go through a similar consolidation process before the fall of 2012. Closing all five schools had previously been discussed as a way to close the district’s $55 million budget gap.
