San Diego board backs off plan to close 8 schools

District still must address projected budget deficit

From The San Diego Union-Tribune: The San Diego school board has halted plans to close eight campuses, and the district will have to find another way to reduce a deficit projected to hit $92 million in the 2013-14 academic year. Of the district's some 200 campuses, 30 that meet closure criteria made the latest list of potential shut-downs. Because many of those schools have appeared on similar lists year after year, principals have complained they have a tough time persuading parents to enroll their children.
