San Diego schedules tax election to combat budget cuts

News release: The San Diego Unified School District has placed an emergency parcel tax on the Nov. 2 ballot that would generate about $50 million a year for five years. The district is proposing the tax in order to maintain educational programs and reasonable class sizes after absorbing nearly $400 million in budget cuts over the last three years. A parcel tax is the only local funding option available to school districts to provide funds for operational purposes.
