From The Bay Citizen: The San Francisco Unified School District continues to deal with the fallout from a long-running payment scandal involving top administrators who managed after-school grants worth tens of millions of dollars. The district is inviting contractors to submit bids to take over a contract to evaluate the effectiveness of behavioral health, violence prevention and other youth services. This work now is handled by Education, Training and Research Associates, Inc. The district’s move to competitively bid the contract—worth up to $637,019 this school year — comes more than five months after The Bay Citizenreported that former associate superintendent Trish Bascom had sought a consulting job with ETR after approving nearly $2.7 million in contracts with the company.
APRIL 2011...from The Bay Citizen: For years, the San Francisco Unified School District department that manages after-school programs falsified “most if not all” financial reports and improperly transferred hundreds of thousands of dollars to community organizations under contract to the district, according to court documents. Former Associate Superintendent Trish Bascom, who headed the Student Support Services Department, allegedly instructed those community organizations to direct at least some of the money to herself and a number of her employees, the documents state.
