IfCalifornia's budget crunch forces San Diego school trustees to slash costs in the state's second largest district, trustees are inclined to come up with the first $22 million with almost no canceling of services. Instead, the board would take $9 million in redevelopment money, generally used to improve buildings and grounds in blighted neighborhoods, and use it to pay custodians. By not filling vacant positions, they would free up $6.2 million.
