School district layoffs in Illinois could reach 20,000

District must inform employees in the spring of potential layoffs
From The Chicago Sun-Times: Total planned layoffs of school district personnel in Illinois stand at more than 17,000. And that's with just 75 percent of districts responding to a survey sent by a coalition of education groups. When all is said and done, school layoffs statewide could top 20,000, the coalition warns. By law, the districts must inform staff of proposed layoffs for next year in the spring.
