July 22, 2010
Number of credentialed registered nurses in schools has declined steadily since 2003

From The Sacramento Bee: The number of credentialed registered nurses serving the 238,000 schoolchildren in Sacramento County, Calif., has declined steadily since 2003 – from 131 to 101. Each county school nurse is responsible, on average, for about 2,350 students, about 600 more than they oversaw in 2003, according to state data. The credentialed nurses sometimes are assisted by licensed vocational nurses or uncredentialed registered nurses, which the state does not count.
