Seattle revamps school bus policies

From The Seattle Times: Seattle Public Schools will make bus-transportation changes next fall that will require up to 4,200 students to walk farther to their bus stops or switch schools to be guaranteed a ride. The School Board approved the change, which is expected to save up to $4 million in the coming school year. The district also will receive up to $4 million in additional revenue from the state for making bus routes more efficient. Of the 4,200 students, up to 3,600 would have to travel farther to their stops than they do this year — sometimes as much as a mile. The district says it will extend crossing-guard hours to make sure students can cross roads safely.
