Several struggling Memphis schools will get new management

State of Tennessee will take over some campuses; others will become charter schools

From The Memphis Commercial Appeal: The state of Tennessee will take control next fall of three schools in the Memphis district. Three other schools will convert to or co-exist with charter schools as part of an effort to concentrate on pockets of the city where schools chronically under-perform. Corning Elementary, Frayser Elementary and Westside Middle will become part of the state Achievement School District; at the same time, the charter KIPP Memphis will open a middle and high school inside Cypress School. Privately run Cornerstone will convert Lester School to a charter school and Gestalt Community Schools will open a middle school inside Gordon Elementary.
