The Shelby County (Tenn.) district has halted random drug testing of athletes until it completes a review of a state attorney general's opinion that called the practice unlawful. In light of the ruling, schools across the state were dropping drug screening programs, but at first, principals at three high schools in Shelby County said they would continue the testing despite the legal opinion. However, Superintendent Bobby Webb decided to stop the testing until legal issues are resolved.
