Student housing proposal draws complaints in Edwardsville, Ill.

A proposed 144-unit student housing and commercial development in Edwardsville, Ill., has drawn strong opposition from residents of a nearby upscale neighborhood. The site is near the campus of Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. The prospective developer is Place Properties of Atlanta, which specializes in apartment housing near college and university campuses. Opponents of the project have cited concerns about parties, noise, drug use, erosion, light pollution and safety.
