Effort to end forced school mergers in South Dakota falls short

From The Sioux Falls Argus-Leader: A legislative committee in South Dakota has defeated Gov. Dennis Daugaard's attempt to repeal the state's 100-student minimum school district size. In four years, the law has forced nine school districts to reorganize. Five others have 117 to 125 students this year, and Daugaard has argued that consolidation decisions should be left to local school boards.
