Southfield (Mich.) district cuts 112 positions


From The Detroit News: Faced with declining enrollment and what officials described as the district's worst financial crisis in years, the Southfield (Mich.) school board has cut eight administrators and 104 teachers to help plug a projected $10 million shortfall for the 2009-10 school year.

EARLIER...From The Detroit Free Press: The Southfield (Mich.) school district plans to lay off 150 employees -- including teachers, counselors and administrators -- to address budget deficits that are expected to grow next school year if no action is taken. The cuts represent about 15 perecent of the district's 1,000 to 1,100 employees, which includes more than 600 teachers.
