New Southwestern College facility in San Ysidro, Calif., is a success

WhenSouthwestern College opened its new 18,000-square-foot Higher Education Center in San Ysidro, Calif., on Jan. 14, administrators figured that about 800 students – at most – would enroll the first semester. More than 1,000 registered in the first week. The original campus – a one-story, 7,500-square-foot structure – was built in 1988 at the same location. But as years passed, there was a clear need for a larger facility. More and more students were forced to commute from San Ysidro to the college's main campus in Chula Vista.
