Special master in New Jersey says education cuts violate state constitution

State Supreme Court will consider whether to accept the finding

From The Newark Star-Ledger: A court-appointed special master has concluded that New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie’s cutbacks in school funding violate the state’s mandate to provide children "a thorough and efficient" education. The finding by Superior Court Judge Peter Doyne could force the governor to come up with millions more for schools. His opinion now will be considered by the state Supreme court. JANUARY 2011....From The Newark Star-Ledger: The New Jersey Supreme Court has asked a “special master” to gather more information and issue a report by March 31 on the latest battle over state education funding. Superior Court Judge Peter Doyne will serve as fact-finder and decide whether Gov. Chris Christie’s nearly $1 billion in cuts to state education aid last year violate the constitution's requirement for “thorough and efficient education for New Jersey school children."
