Sheridan Elementary will remain open

From The St. Paul Pioneer Press: One of three St. Paul, Minn., elementary school programs on the chopping block has won a reprieve after school board members voted to remove Sheridan Elementary from potential "repurposing. The other two — Roosevelt and Longfellow elementaries — were approved for closure effective June 2010.

MAY 2009...from The St. Paul Pioneer Press: Roosevelt and Longfellow magnet elementary schools in St. Paul, Minn., would close and the Sheridan Elementary building would get a new program in the fall of 2010 under recommendations presented to the St. Paul school board. The three program closures would affect about 1,000 students and about 170 employees. The district estimates the closures — plus moving Humboldt Junior High into the adjacent high school, which is scheduled for this fall — would save close to $2.5 million.

Earlier....From The Minneapolis Star-Tribune: Administrators in the St. Paul (Minn.) School District are preparing to present the school board with a wide-ranging view of where they think the district should be headed. They also will disclose the names of three elementary schools the district plans to close for the 2010-11 school year.
