Staggered student schedule eases crowding at Lockport, Ill., school

Juniors and seniors at Lockport Township High start 2 hours early

From The Joliet Herald-News: The first day of the new school year -- with staggered shifts beginning early in the morning -- went smoothly at Lockport (Ill.) Township High School, said Superintendent Garry Raymond. Juniors and seniors are beginning the day at 6:44 a.m. under the new staggered shifts, which are designed to reduce crowding in the classrooms and hallways wthe district's enrollment likely remains at least 200 students over capacity. Juniors and seniors attend classes from 6:44 a.m. to 1:44 p.m., and freshmen and sophomores attend classes from 8:44 a.m. to 3:44 p.m.
