Illinois school tests program to track bus riders with GPS

From Triblocal.com: Stevenson High School in Lincolnshire, Ill., is testing a program that tracks students that ride school buses. Officials hope it will increase safety and lead to more efficient bus routes. The program entails a bus equipped with a GPS monitoring system and reader pad; students swipe their student IDs when entering and leaving the bus. District officials see it as a way to keep students safe. If a student were to go to a friend’s house or sleep through their bus stop, parents would know where their student had left the bus. Eventually, parents will be able to track their student’s information online through a parent portal, and a smartphone mobile application.
