Construction of replacement school to begin this summer in Alaska

Construction of a new Susitna Valley Junior/Senior High School is expected to begin this summer in Talkeetna, Alaska. The Matanuska-Susitna Borough School Board has approved a final
design for a building to replace the one lost to fire last
summer. Construction on the 50,750-square-foot school should begin late this summer and be completed in time to open in fall 2009.

FROM DECEMBER 2007: The Matanuska-Susitna Borough (Alaska) School District is building a new Susitna Valley Junior/Senior High School in Talkeetna.
The old Susitna Valley school was destroyed by fire in June. The new
building will have a stone-and-timber facade and interior spaces with
wooden beams, a stone fireplace and a climbing wall. The climbing wall
would tower over the commons and the media center and be visible from
many vantage points within the school. The architect is McCool Carlson Green Architects.
