From The Los Angeles Times: Last year, 15-year-old Larry King was killed in Dawn Boldrin's class at E.O. Green Junior High in Oxnard, Calif. On the eve of a pretrial hearing in the hate-crime case, the teacher, who has lost her job, tells of her emotional descent.

FROM MARCH 2008: The Feb. 12 killing of an openly gay student at an Oxnard, Calif., junior high school continues to draw attention from around the world, and students, parents and others wonder if red flags in the boys' circumstances and backgrounds had been missed and whether more could have been done to avert the tragedy. The anti-gay taunts and slurs that 15-year-old Larry King endured from his male peers apparently had been constant; they grew worse after the slightly built Larry pushed back by "flirting" with some of his mockers.

FROM FEBRUARY 2008: Ventura County, Calif., prosecutors have charged a 14-year-old boy with the shooting death of a classmate; they say the killing in an Oxnard classroom was a premeditated hate crime. Brandon McInerney has been charged as an adult. Lawrence King was shot in the head early Tuesday in a classroom full of students at E.O. Green Junior High School. Classmates said King recently had started to wear makeup and jewelry and had proclaimed himself gay. Several students said there was a verbal confrontation concerning King's sexual orientation a day before the killing.
