Plans unveiled for new elementary in Jefferson Parish, La.

Preliminary designs have been unveiled for a school to replace Terrytown Elementary in Jefferson Parish, La., which was destroyed by the flooding that followed Hurricane Katrina three years ago. The new, C-shaped, 74,000-square-foot structure includes a tapered roof, which should be able to withstand high wind speeds better than a flat-roofed model, district officials say. The two-story design will open up more green space for student recreation, and provide extra room for busing, parking and student pick-up. The architect is Anthony Gendusa.
