Texas State University plans forensic field lab

Texas State University-San Marcos plans to build a forensic field laboratory to study decomposing corpses on five acres of the 4,200-acre university-owned Freeman Ranch west of San Marcos. The Forensic Anthropology Research Facility, part of a graduate program in forensic anthropology at Texas State, will train scientists and law enforcement officials in establishing the time of death and the nature of death when bodies are found. It will also provide training in the identification of skeletal and dental remains. Officials say the lab will be in a remote area of the ranch about one mile from the closest bordering property and will be surrounded by high security fencing and netting to keep trespassers, vultures and coyotes out.
