Two education facilities--the Charles Hostler Student Center on the campus of the American University of Beirut (Lebanon), and The Chartwell School in Seaside, Calif.--are among the top 10 green projects for 2009 selected by the American Institute of Architects' Committee on the Environment. The AIA says the Beirut facility "provides a model for environmentally responsive design that meets the social needs of the campus and the larger region." The Chartwell School was designed to be "a campus that would function as a teaching tool about sustainability while dramatically reducing the school's environmental impact."
